THA began working with the Friends of Bertson in 2016 with the design of a new Success Center in the lower level of Berston Field House aimed to provide Flint residents with the tools and life skills necessary to become productive members of society.
In 2017, Friends of Bertson commissioned THA to conduct a comprehensive building and site facility assessment report of the entire building and 6.85-acre site to determine long-term and short-term improvement needs and associated costs. Once this report was complete and all deficiencies were determined with estimated costs, it was essential to develop a plan to organize the large amount of work into smaller projects and create a community campaign to raise funds to complete the work.
In July of 2017, THA began to develop a master plan to restore the once vibrant community icon to its former glory. A series of design workshops were held to better define current and future space needs for the year 2022 while taking the facility assessment report into consideration so that all issues would be corrected in the master plan.
At the beginning of 2022, THA was then hired to move forward with the 85,100 SF renovation and addition to Berston Field House to create a state-of-the-art gym and event center. We have just completed the schematic designs and have been directed to move forward with Design Development.
