Community Foundation of

Greater Flint Headquarters

THA provided full architectural and engineering services including structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing design for a mixed use urban development project located in downtown Flint.

Originally the corner building housed a retail dry goods store, with a dentist office and boarding rooms on the upper floors, later a shoe store moved in and a drug store occupied the ground floor of the adjacent building. A fire has twice destroyed the 2 story side of this adaptive reuse project. These two corner buildings are now home to a retail shop/restaurant on the first floor, with the newly relocated Community Foundation of Greater Flint Headquarters on the second floor, and 2 loft units on the third floor.

THA decided to uncover the interior brick walls (once covered in plaster) to reveal the historical feel of the original buildings. Now, a contemporary sweeping curve creates the main focal point when you enter the offices of one of Michigan’s largest and most innovative Community Foundations.

The board room is divisible into one larger conference room seating 16-18 while a smaller conference room seats 8-10 people at a time. When the room is divided, technology equipment, projection screens and flat screen televisions allow for individual teleconferencing with both rooms having their own lighting controls and white board. Exposed structure, unique lighting, translucent curving, polycarbonate panels, a custom reception counter, etched sliding glass doors into the private offices and more make this space one of the cutting edge offices in the County!
