Workspace to Define.

Design. Develop. Deliver.

Spud Software, founded by Derek Sommer in the basement of his Grand Blanc home in 1997, began by providing simple, customized software solutions to a small client base. Today, the company has grown to more than 50 staff members, servicing over 200 high-profile client accounts throughout the United States. With all of this new growth, Spud’s 4,000 SF headquarters, dubbed “the barn,” was no longer a good fit.

The tech company brought THA Architects Engineers and DW Lurvey Construction together in a design/build project to create a simple, but modern, new headquarters on an adjacent narrow lot to accommodate the firm’s future needs and better reflect their innovative approach to developing software solutions.

With clean lines, bold colors and modern industrial finishes throughout, this state-of-the-art office building blends the company’s methodology of “Define, Design, Develop, Deliver” with their “Work Hard, Play Hard” motto to create a sleek, “hip meets chic” two-story home away from home.

The second floor office space features a large open floor plan with flexible furniture designed to streamline employee workflow and encourage collaboration between team members. Large exterior windows and interior glass walls encompass the office area, allowing natural light to enter the interior workspaces, improving energy efficiency and employee morale. Polished concrete floors and an open staircase leading to the lobby and first floor recreational area further enhance the identity of this cutting-edge facility.

The first floor mimics the open floor plan and features an employee beverage station, a full commercial kitchen with personal chef, lounge area and an exterior patio for staff to unwind and converse with one another in a relaxed atmosphere.
