Van Hoosen Farm

& Dairy Barn Museum

The approximately 7,400 SF Van Hoosen Dairy Barn was built in 1927 and is the largest surviving barn from the Van Hoosen Dairy operation managed by Dr. Sarah Van Hoosen Jones from 1921-1954. The barn is part of the Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm complex that comprises 12 acres of land, the 1840 Van Hoosen Farmhouse, the 1880 Red House, and several small barn buildings. The Van Hoosen Barn complex is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a Michigan Registered Historic site.

The Van Hoosen Barn Adaptive Reuse Project converted the Dairy Barn into a year round cultural, educational, and recreational facility. Improvements to this building site included driveways, walkways, parking lots, gates, signage and water and sewer hookups. Features inside the barn included exhibit and display space, a gift shop, a meeting room, an audiovisual room, an archival storage area, a kitchen, office space, restrooms, and full HVAC systems. Work here included a site and use plan for the total complex.
