Managing the Transformation

of a new Business School

In 2009, THA Architects Engineers began design work to convert a 16-story Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Flint, Michigan, into a new student residence hall. All 12 floors of residential living and a first floor conference center were completed in 2010 under the Riverfront Residence Hall project.

THA was then retained to complete the facility renovations by designing a new School of Management for the University of Michigan-Flint on the second floor. At 30,000 square feet, the relocated school now yields 10 classrooms, five of which have tiered floors, and one that has full distance learning video capabilities. The featured classroom is a trading floor classroom with 3×2 video monitors and a curved, rolling ticker display. The school is complete with 34 staff offices, as well as a suite for administrative personnel.
